Federal Regulations, under 34 §C.F.R. 668.43, requires disclosure to students located out of state if the degree offered at Radford University will be recognized as meeting the educational requirements of a state's professional licensing board.
Radford University offers a number of programs leading to professional licensure listed below. All of these meet requirements for licensure in Virginia. A disclosure statement is provided regarding meeting educational requirements for licensure in other jurisdictions. Jurisdictions may have other requirements beyond educational preparation to obtain licensure. For some programs a determination has not yet been made and is pending further research.
Athletic Training
The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) provides students with the opportunity
to earn a graduate degree in athletic training, which will allow students to sit for
the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer's (BOC) examination. The Master of
Science in Athletic Training meets the requirements for licensure in Virginia and
all US states and territories except: Alabama, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion
of the program alone meets the educational requirements for licensure. Athletic trainers are recognized by the American Medical Association as allied health

Counselor Education
The Master of Science degree in Counseling and Human Development, School Counseling Concentration, prepares highly trained and competent school counselors to effectively serve the K-12 population. Completion of this program will allow students to apply for licensure as a professional school counselor in the state of Virginia. It has yet to be determined if the Counselor Education program meet licensing or certification requirements in other states and Territories, More information about national certification requirements can be found at https://www.schoolcounselor.org/About-School-Counseling/Careers-in-School-Counseling/State-Requirements-Programs. Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion of the program alone meets the educational requirements for licensure.
Educator Licensure
Radford University offers numerous programs leading to educational licensure: Elementary
Education, Middle School Education, Secondary Education (Biology, Chemistry, Earth
Science, English, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies), Art Education, Music Education,
Dance Education, Foreign Language Education (Spanish), Health/Physical Education,
Special Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Early Childhood Special Education.
Virginia participates in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education
and Certification (NASDTEC). The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement facilitates the mobility
of educators among the states and other jurisdictions that are members of NASDTEC
and have signed the Agreement. Eight states have full reciprocity that allows a teacher
licensed in Virginia to become licensed in that state without any further requirements
- Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, and Oklahoma.
All other jurisdictions that participate in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement may choose to have additional requirements for educators who are coming from another
jurisdiction. These additional requirements are known as “Jurisdiction Specific Requirements”
(JSRs). Most times these additional requirements vary upon the educator's years of
experience. Contact the office of certification in any state to which you may be
relocating to get the most accurate information on certification requirements. The NASDTE maintains a list of these offices. The four states that do not participate are New Mexico, New York, South Dakota and
Wisconsin.

Occupational Therapy
Graduates of the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program will be eligible to
sit for the Certification Examination for the Occupational Therapist, administered
by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). In addition,
all states including Virginia, require a license to practice. State licenses are usually
based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination and graduation from an
Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy (ACOTE) accredited program. The MOT
at Radford University is ACOTE accredited. The following states have additional educational
requirements beyond the MOT and board certification: Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan. Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion
of the program alone meets the educational requirements for licensure.

The Physician Assistant (PA) Program at Radford University is accredited by the ARC-PA,
and therefore meets requirements for students to sit for the Physician Assistant National
Certifying Examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification
of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). All states require that initial licensees for PA
practice pass the PANCE. Some states have additional continuing educational requirements
for licensure. These requirements are state specific and may change frequently. The
American Academy of Physician Associates provides a state by-state listing of licensure requirements under “Statutory and Regulatory Requirements
for Initial Licensure and License Renewal”. Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion

Social Work
Social work regulatory boards require that social work degrees must be obtained from
programs of social work that are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
(CSWE). Both the BSW and MSW at Radford University are accredited by CSWE and therefore
meet the educational requirements to become a licensed social worker in other states.
Some states may have requirements beyond the educational requirements in order to
be licensed. More information about national certification requirements can be found
at www.onlinemswprograms.com/resources/social-work-state-licensing-boards/. Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion
of the program alone meets the educational requirements for licensure.

Speech-language pathology
The Communication Sciences and Disorders (COSD) graduate program is accredited by
the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA)
of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The graduate program provides
students the opportunity to achieve the knowledge and skills outcomes required for
the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through ASHA once they have successfully completed a post-graduate clinical fellowship
totaling 1260 hours and passed the national certification exam in speech-language
pathology obtain the certification. ASHA certification meets or exceeds state licensing
requirements in all 50 states
Some states require additional clinical or educational requirements to work in the
school systems beyond the ASHA-CCC-SLP such as a minimum number of clinical hours
training in a school system or additional coursework. These requirements can be met
while enrolled in the graduate program at Radford University through individualized
academic advising and fieldwork placement. States with additional SLP licensing requirements
to practice in the schools include: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois,
Iowa, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, and Wisconsin. More information about national
certification requirements can be found at www.asha.org/advocacy/state/. Please refer to the table below, which indicates for each state whether completion
of the program alone meets the educational requirements for licensure.
