Selected Virginia Minerals (Part 3)

Feldspar

• Plagioclase feldspar and orthoclase feldspar are common in the Blue Ridge and Piedmont in Virginia.

• Excellent specimens of white albite moonstone, amazonite, and cleavelandite (platy plagioclase) have been found in pegmatites in Amelia County. 

• Orthoclase moonstone has been reported in Goochland County.

Amazonite is a blue-green variety of orthoclase. It is abundant in pegmatites in Amelia County
