Dr. Mark Shanley was appointed as Vice President of Student Affairs at Radford University on August 1, 2010. Prior to joining Radford, Dr. Shanley served as Interim Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Miami University in Ohio.
His previous professional service included Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Associate Professor of Education (College Student Development Administration) at Northern Kentucky University, Dean of Student Affairs at Truman State University, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Development at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. His first professional position was Coordinator of Student Activities at Youngstown State University. He was born in Ottawa, Ill. and grew up in Toledo, Ohio.
Dr. Shanley received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University Bloomington, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina Columbia. His dissertation research focused on the impact of freshman seminar participation on student retention and graduation rates. Dr. Shanley is a life-long member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and serves on the Alumni Advisory Board for the Gamma Xi chapter at UC.
Dr. Shanley has held faculty rank as associate professor at several institutions and has taught courses on higher education administration, student personnel services, as well as University 101. He has been actively engaged in NASPA, ACPA, NACA, and other professional associations throughout his career, and served on the founding board of the NASPA National Academy for Leadership and Executive Effectiveness.
