NUTR 364: Field Experience in Nutrition and Dietetics

Prerequisites: NUTR 214, NUTR 301, advisor permission

Credit Hours: (1-3) repeatable up to 6 credits

Provides NUTR students the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge and skills to develop professional identity or professional practice and to critically reflect on their learning, abilities, experiences, or role within professional contexts.

 

Detailed Description of Course Content

This course provides expectations for professional behavior at a work-site. Students then obtain their own supervised, practical field experience.

  • Expectations for professional characteristics and dispositions
  • Selecting suitable Nutrition and Dietetics-related work sites
  • Completion of affiliation agreements
  • Expected activities and experiences
  • Logging and reporting experiences
  • Instructor contact with supervisor
  • Summative assignment 



Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will receive 5 hours of instruction and will obtain their own placement in one or more Nutrition and Dietetics-related work settings to obtain 75 hours of experience.  Students will log experiences and complete a summative assignment.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Successful completion of the course will enable the student to:

  • Demonstrate professional characteristics and dispositions
  • Apply theory to practical work situations
  • Generate work records and references that will enhance internship and employment opportunities



Assessment Measures

Assessment measures may include, but are not limited to, interviews with site supervisors, performance appraisals by faculty, activity logs, and summative assignments

This course fulfills in part, the requirements for the Didactic Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.
