NURS 829: Doctor of Nursing Practice - Clinical Leadership Residency I, II, and III

Prerequisites: NURS 810, NURS 812.

Credit Hours: (1-12)

This residency is an immersion experience that includes in depth work with experts from nursing and other disciplines for those who have certification as an advanced practice nurse. The residency provides the framework for the DNP final project.

 

Detailed Description of Course

The residency is an immersion experience that includes in depth work with experts from nursing and other disciplines. Advanced nursing roles and experiences assist students in development and assimilation of complex knowledge, decision making and administrative detail. The residency provides the framework for the Capstone project in which the student identifies, develops, and implements a project involving educational leadership, policy, business practice, or a research interest that culminates in a publishable paper, program and presentation.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

May include but is not limited to completion of prerequisite course requirements, 540 required executive leadership ‘immersion’ hours by end of program, and, student-directed discussions

and presentations, reading assignments, written work, self- reflection and journaling, and conferences with faculty advisors and designated preceptors. The online component of this course may include audio or video presentations/lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms, videoconferencing, and other instructional technology strategies.

 

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate clinical judgment in complex clinical situations.
2. Employ evidenced-based practice to promote wellness, prevent illness, manage illness and maintain independent function at the highest possible levels for individuals, groups, and populations.
3. Participate in quality improvement and evaluations at varying levels of the health care system.
4. Demonstrate in-depth work with experts in nursing and other disciplines in area of specialization.
5. Examine and interpret emerging regulatory issues, standards of practice, health care and legislative trends in diverse settings across the health care delivery system.

 

Assessment Measures

May include but are not limited to: Faculty/preceptor evaluations, student self-evaluation, completion of course requirements and required executive leadership immersion hours, development of executive leadership competencies, demonstration of experiential competencies, oral presentations and written work, including logs, and journals.
