V. Course Description: Students gain an understanding of research methods for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting healthcare data for the application of these methods in healthcare organizations. Students distinguish between types of research (quantitative and qualitative) with an emphasis on quantitative analysis in healthcare organizations. The student develops statistical skills applicable to understanding research and decision making processes used in organizational planning and policy development.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course is conducted synchronously and offered in multiple formats. D2L weekly module-based assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, and reflective learning.  

 

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Course Learning Objectives:Assess advanced oral knowledge of statistical, theoretical, and principle research methods to support evidence-based decision making in healthcare. (1)
2. Assess advanced written knowledge of statistical, theoretical, and principle research methods to support evidence-based decision making in healthcare. (1)
3. Critique published work including journal articles and technical reports for validity, applicability, strengths and weaknesses. (2)
4. Explore data extraction procedures of large data repositories of healthcare information, integrating statistical, theoretical, and research methods principles. (3)
5. Evaluate quantitative findings from health care research. (4)
6. Effectively communicate the quantitative findings of healthcare   research to a diverse audience. (4)
7. Assess ethical implications of healthcare administration research on information systems.(5)

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be graded based on the assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, video recordings, Zoom sessions, and reflective learning of the course.
