V. Course Description: Principles and tools needed to integrate quality assessment into management decision-making processes are examined. Students gain an understanding of quality and performance measurement theory and methodology needed to improve organizational processes and outcomes.

 

Content

Modules for the course may include, but are not limited to: Health Care Applications of Personalization, Burnout, and Organizational Culture. 

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course is conducted synchronously and offered in multiple formats. D2L weekly module-based assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, and reflective learning.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Create an operational definition of quality based on analysis and synthesis of current quality management theories.  (1,4)
  2. Differentiate between clinical quality and customer-service quality in terms of defining, measuring, and improving patient satisfaction and safety. (4)
  3. Analyze the influence of legislative, regulatory, and financial institutions on healthcare quality and cost.
  4. Formulate strategies to navigate the influence of legislative, regulatory, and financial institutions on healthcare quality and cost dynamics effectively. (3)
  5. Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative performance assessment methods. (2)
  6. Evaluate program-appropriate (stakeholder) performance outcome measures as related to the organization’s strategic plan. (2)

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be graded based on the assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, video recordings, Zoom sessions, and reflective learning of the course.
