V. Course Description:

Principles and tools needed to integrate quality assessment into management decision-making processes are examined. Students gain an understanding of quality and performance measurement theory and methodology needed to improve organizational processes and outcomes.

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course is conducted synchronously and offered in multiple formats. D2L weekly module-based assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, and reflective learning.  

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Evaluate the rationale for the adoption and use of operations management research methods within healthcare organizations.
  • Compare the sources of internal/external information available for operational decision-making.
  • Critique the advantages and disadvantages of internal/external information available for operational decision-making.
  • Assess organizational planning and control functions associated with the production and delivery of healthcare goods and services.
  • Evaluate appropriate qualitative and/or quantitative approaches to develop solutions to operational problems.

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be graded based on the assignments of readings, lectures, guest speakers, discussions, exams, case studies, presentations, group activities, video recordings, Zoom sessions, and reflective learning of the course.
