Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
The course design provides the student with knowledge of the anatomical foundations
of human motion and injury conditions. The course includes the study of fundamental
movement concepts, structure and function of joints, and the muscular and neuromuscular
system as related to movement, orthopedic injury conditions and evaluation. Evaluation
experiences in the recognition and assessment of anatomical structures and injuries
occurring to the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, and torso are a central focus.
Student Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the major joints in the upper extremity and movements that
occur in those joints singularly and in combination including the hand, wrist, forearm,
elbow, shoulder, and torso.
- Identify bones, ligaments, and muscle structures in the upper extremity visually and
through palpation.
- Analyze muscular movement patterns singularly and in combination for the joints of
the upper extremity.
- Perform a physical examination of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and torso.
- Identify orthopedic injury condition and affected structures in the upper extremity.
- Demonstrate orthopedic testing for specific injuries in the upper extremity.

Assessment measures may include, but are not limited to:
- Written examination
- Practical examination
- Video assignments
- Group Projects
