Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The course design provides the student with knowledge of the anatomical foundations of human motion and injury conditions. The course includes the study of fundamental movement concepts, structure and function of joints, and the muscular and neuromuscular system as related to movement, orthopedic injury conditions and evaluation. Evaluation experiences in the recognition and assessment of anatomical structures and injuries occurring to the foot, ankle, shin, knee, thigh, hip, and torso is a central focus.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate movement patterns of the major joints in the lower extremity including movements that occur in those joints singularly and in combination.
  2. Identify bones, ligaments, and muscle structures in the lower extremity visually and through palpation.
  3. Analyze muscular movement patterns singularly and in combination for the joints of the lower extremity.
  4. Perform orthopedic physical examinations of the foot, ankle, knee, thigh, hip, and pelvis.
  5. Identify orthopedic injury condition and affected structures in the lower extremity.
  6. Demonstrate orthopedic testing procedures for specific injuries in the lower extremity.

  • Written examination

  • Video assignments
  • Group Projects
