CS 589: AI Capstone
Prerequisite: CS 581, CS 582

Students will take the knowledge from the previous AI courses and will create a project in conjunction with a faculty member that demonstrates their knowledge of AI in one or more areas. Examples are advanced prompt engineering, fine tuning, model training, creation of software with agentic AI, creation of applications that use AI.
Detailed Description of Content of Course
The course is designed as a capstone course for the graduate AI certificate. A self-initiated or directed individual or group project (depending, in part, upon a given semester’s enrollment) is designed and implemented by the students with faculty mentorship. The type of project and the format in which results are presented are determined by the student, but must be verified and approved by a faculty member. A final presentation of their work at a school level event is required.

Students design, initiate and implement their projects with faculty mentorship.

Assessment Measures
Students will be graded on the design and implementation of a meaningful project, their meeting the schedule they set for themselves, the quality of the final presentation.
