Why Study Accounting at Radford?

  • Each upper-division accounting course is taught by an individual with a terminal degree (Ph.D., D.B.A.) in the field.
  • Our smaller class sizes allow you to get to know your professor better, and for them to know and help you.
  • Accounting faculty not only serve as academic advisors, but they also support students’ search for internships and, eventually, full-time employment. We take great pride in seeing students find careers. In fact, many of our rising seniors in accounting have already obtained full-time employment before they start their last year in the program.

Careers and Internships

Obtaining an internship, often as early as the summer between a student’s second and third year, allows that student to learn more about areas within accounting that they might be interested in pursuing full time. It also allows the student to obtain up to 3 hours of academic credit toward their degree.

What’s the professional landscape look like for a recent graduate with an accounting degree?

Accounting graduates are in high demand, which also translates to opportunities as interns while you’re still in school.

Opportunities for Accounting students at Radford

Accounting majors participate in student organizations and activities such as the Institute of Management Accountants, Beta Alpha Psi, the Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and many more.

Students at the Davis College of Business and Economics can easily choose a second major or a minor in another business discipline to enhance their career readiness.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to Radford University allows an individual to major in accounting. To graduate, students must maintain a 2.0 overall GPA and a 2.25 in accounting major courses.

  • 88% career placement rate for our graduates

Many of our accounting majors describe the highlight of their academic year as “Firm Night,” which occurs every September.

This is a career fair event that showcases our students among 35-40 prospective employers in the financial services industry, with most of the firms being from the accounting field.

“I’ve built a large network out of my experiences at Radford that I feel is going to help me going forward in my career, which feels unique. The faculty at our school is so dedicated and engaged so much with students; I don’t know what my path would have looked like without them.”
