Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger has appointed Christopher B. Settle ’97 to the Radford
University Board of Visitors.
Settle brings nearly three decades of public safety leadership and a strong commitment
to higher education and student success.
“Radford University played a formative role in my life and career, and I am deeply
honored to return as a member of the Board of Visitors,” Settle said. “I look forward
to supporting the university’s mission and ensuring that future generations of students
have access to the same transformative opportunities that shaped my path in public
service.”
Settle serves as chief of police for the Culpeper (Virginia) Police Department, where
he has dedicated nearly 30 years to public safety. A lifelong resident of the community,
he earned his Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Radford University in 1997
and a master’s degree in public safety from the University of Virginia in 2023.
In addition to his professional leadership, Settle is actively engaged in higher education
and workforce development. He serves as a dual enrollment instructor of criminal justice
at Germanna Community College and the Culpeper Technical Educational Center, bringing
real-world experience into the classroom and mentoring future public service professionals.
Settle has contributed to statewide and national initiatives focused on innovation
and organizational excellence through his involvement with the International Association
of Chiefs of Police and as an executive member of the Virginia Association of Chiefs
of Police.
“We welcome Chief Settle to the Board of Visitors,” said Radford University President
Bret Danilowicz. “Not only does he have valuable knowledge of our university as an
alumnus; he brings extensive experience in serving the community – a key focus of
our mission and one shared by generations of Highlanders.”
Beyond his professional roles, he remains committed to community service and youth
mentorship. Settle and his wife, Kelsey, have two sons, Harrison and Grant.
