Beyond packing boxes and shopping for necessities, prepare for living on your own:
It is a good idea to contact your roommate(s) to know each other and plan for move-in:
A few weeks before move-in you will receive information about signing up for a move-in timeslot.
Some programs, such as the Honor’s College or athletic teams, may require you move-in early. Consult your program contact for that information as you select a timeslot.
There are a few things you must have completed to be eligible for check-in. Avoid delay and confirm everything is in order before arriving:
Contact campus offices for assistance:
Check out our list of what to bring, what to leave at home, and room setup.
When you first arrive for move-in, head to the unloading lot designated to your housing assignment. Below are the unloading lot locations:
After unloading, move vehicle(s) to long-term lots: CC, FF, U, Z.
Please refer to the Radford Campus Move-In Parking Map [PDF] for help finding your lot.
Check-In tents are located near each of the designated unloading lots. Check-in tents can be found on the move-in map. Please have your RUID, li
Only the vehicle with the student present should go through the drive-up check-in. Additional vehicles should wait nearby in the lot.
Parking multiple vehicles and/or trailers may be limited in some apartments lots. Please relocate vehicles and/or trailers to more open university lots to avoid congestion. Keep in mind, the university is not responsible for towing resulting from parking in non-university lots.
Campus community volunteers called “Highlander Haulers” will help residents and their families as they move-in. They will assist with information, additional hands, cold water, and will celebrate your arrival to campus!
Volunteers will be wearing bright tie-dye shirts, making them easily identifiable.
Volunteer stations near each check-in tent will have move-in carts to assist you. Carts are first come, first served so we recommend bringing your own carts, dollies, or wagons if you're able.
Once you have moved into your space, check everything listed on the Room Condition Form in the housing portal. Document any pre-existing issues to avoid charges for damages unaccounted for at the time of move-in. Be sure to report any facilities issues to our staff so that we can investigate and report.
If you encounter problems with cable, electrical outlets, or WiFi, contact the appropriate offices using the IT/network information provided by our staff. IT network support will have crews traveling around the halls to address issues throughout move-in.
Student Affairs proudly hosts Welcome Weeks to celebrate your arrival, kick off the year, and give you the opportunity to meet your classmates along with faculty and staff.
