Radford University/Radford City Joint Commission

The Radford Joint Commission is a collaborative partnership between Radford University and the City of Radford, created to strengthen connections between the university and the local community. The Commission serves as a forum for dialogue, shared planning, and coordinated action on initiatives that benefit both the City and the University.

Its purpose is to:

• Foster strong relationships between city and university leadership.
• Promote joint efforts that enhance community development, economic growth, and educational opportunities.
• Address issues of mutual concern in areas such as housing, transportation, public safety, and quality of life.
• Support student engagement and community partnerships that enrich Radford’s cultural, social, and economic vitality.

By bringing together city officials, university leaders, and community stakeholders, the Commission ensures that both Radford University and the City of Radford thrive together—building a stronger, more vibrant future for students, residents, and businesses alike.

The Radford University and City of Radford Joint Commission exists to strengthen the enduring partnership between the City of Radford and Radford University, guided by five strategic pillars:  Economic Development; Community Vibrancy and Placemaking; Outdoor Recreation and Tourism development; Knowledge Exchange and Community Engagement; and Collaborative Governance and Sustainability.  Fiscal Year 2025-26 was above all, a year defined by community engagement, strategic planning and cultivating our relationship with the Radford community - from student volunteerism and new public spaces to revitalization efforts, public safety recognition, and a stakeholder presentation.  This report captures those achievements pillar by pillar, along with highlights from the commission’s meetings this year.
