Jacob Wiant is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on costume design, fashion,
and textiles. He views the creative process of storytelling as uniquely interconnected
across fine art disciplines. Within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, he
collaborates with directors and designers to fabricate, source, and execute a variety
of stories. He positions the student experience at the center of each collaboration.
With a hands-on approach, Wiant creates an immersive learning environment where students
can engage directly with media. Wiant loves creating well-told stories through the
medium of costume. An understanding of how clothing shapes an audience’s perspective
is a powerful tool that he shares with the students. Through project-based learning,
he prompts them to think critically about design problems while fostering problem-solving
and creative decision-making skills. No matter the discipline, he frames the creative
process as a tool to solve problems and better prepare students to be adaptable for
the rapidly changing modern world.
With a background in Fine Arts and an BFA in Production Design, Wiant brings crossdisciplinary
expertise into the disciplines he manages. He is active in fostering local creative
communities and is excited to advocate and support young designers and creatives.
