Hello! I began my career at Radford University (Go Highlanders) in 2005 and now serve
as Professor of Marketing in the Davis College of Business & Economics. I received
my BBA and MBA degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (Go ‘Horns) and my Ph.D.
from the University of Houston (Go Coogs). I also spent a graduate semester at Rotterdam
School of Management (Erasmus University) in The Netherlands. In previous years I
taught Advertising, Promotions and Consumer Behavior courses at the National University
of Singapore and the University of Houston, where I received the Melcher Award for
Excellence in Teaching. At Radford I have taught Principles of Marketing, Marketing
Research, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Consumer Behavior courses. I was
named Greek Life Professor of the Year in 2009, Outstanding Faculty Member for the
College of Business & Economics in 2010, and selected for "Distinguished Women of
Radford University" in 2012. In summer 2012, I served as an Advertising Educational
Foundation Visiting Professor, and was hosted by Havas Worldwide in New York. Prior
to academic life, I worked in consulting for Accenture and Arthur Andersen in Houston.
My research interests are eclectic, ranging from consumer response to advertising
and the evolution of gender categories in retailing, to health promotion, consumer
welfare and public policy issues, including children’s privacy online and mutual fund
ad disclosure. My work has been referenced by such popular press news sources as ABC
News, PBS, New York Times, Washington Post, MSN, and Business Week, as well as in
congressional testimony to the United States Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection,
Product Safety, and Insurance. I have published 28 peer reviewed journal articles
in such journals as Journal of Retailing, Journal of Communication, Journal of Advertising,
Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Internet Research, International
Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Education, International Journal of
IMC, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Consumer Policy, Journal of Personal
Selling and Sales Management, Health Communication, Journal of Health Care Marketing,
and others.
I enjoy traveling and have lived in Europe, Asia and Australia. I co-coordinated Radford's
Study Abroad programs to Australia in 2007 and 2010, and Ireland in 2013.
