IV. Corequisites: ESID 101 or ESID 103

V. Course Description: 

Course provides the student with approximately 50 hours of supervised patient care experiences in the hospital setting and/or prehospital setting with a local emergency response agency.  This course partially fulfillls the requirements to sit for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Examination. 

Note(s): Applied Learning designated course.  This course is Pass/Fail.

VI. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

  1. Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the EMT while on duty.
  2. Observe patient care in the prehospital and/or hospital setting.
  3. Conduct patient assessments and histories appropriate to the student level.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
  5. Document patient care information.
  6. Perform patient care management strategies appropriate to student level.
  7. Reevaluate the patient’s condition to determine if alternative strategies are needed.
