Directed Study

Prerequisites: Approval of the directed study supervisor, program coordinator, and advisor;  Directed Study form must be submitted to the Graduate College.

Directed Study
Credit hours (1-6)

Semi-autonomous independent research on a design thinking topic of interest to the student.  Provides the student with an opportunity to develop a conceptual sophistication on a specific topic.  May be repeated twice for a maximum of six (6) credits.

2. Detailed Description of Course

This self-paced elective course is to complement the existing MFA in Design Thinking curriculum by offering students additional exploration into an area of interest related to design thinking.  Students will identify the topic of interest and select a faculty supervisor with knowledge and expertise in the subject area.  Learning outcomes and deliverables will vary by student but must be determined in conjunction with the faculty supervisor.   

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Content will vary depending on student interests.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

One programmatic learning outcomes is addressed with this course (although others may be addressed based on student’s selected topic):

Enhance understanding and knowledge of what is published in area of interest

Assessment will be measured against learning outcomes as outlined by the directed study supervisor.
