ESHE 225: Allied Health Sciences Practicum I

Clinical experiences designed to provide students with an appreciation of the various duties of allied health professionals. This course requires the completion of 30 hours of clinical experience.

Detailed Description of Course
This course follows ESHE 205 (Introduction to Allied Health Sciences). This practicum provides students with an opportunity to develop an appreciation for the duties and responsibilities of an allied health professional. Students are required to document observation experiences and reflect on their relevance to professional association standards.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Students will participate in allied health activities (e.g., occupational therapy, physical therapy) for 30 hours during the academic year. A therapist or related practitioner will directly supervise these experiences. Students will communicate with classmates and the course instructor weekly to discuss various issues related to allied health care professional duties and responsibilities.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
1) Explain the duties and responsibilities of an allied healthcare professional.
2) Identify the various standards of professional allied health associations and how
they relate to practice.
3) Explain how allied health professionals communicate in various settings, including
written communication methods.
4) Describe various therapeutic and rehabilitation modalities used in allied healthcare
