Three Radford University Carilion (RUC) online healthcare leadership programs have been ranked as some of the best in the nation by Academic Influence, a company that uses artificial intelligence to arrive at its various rankings.

In their respective categories, RUC’s bachelor of science in healthcare administration is ranked the No. 2 program in the country; the master of science in health sciences is ranked No. 4; and the master of healthcare administration is ranked No. 5. All of the programs are part of RUC’s Public Health and Healthcare Leadership (PHHL) department.

“We are proud of these rankings and feel they demonstrate the hard work and dedication of our faculty and students,” said Sallie Beth Johnson, Ph.D., chair of the Department of PHHL and program director of the bachelor-level health sciences and public health programs at RUC. “We strive to offer the best online healthcare leadership programs in the region, the state and beyond, and this recognition shows we are succeeding.”

Academic Influence uses a unique artificial intelligence (AI) methodology to generate its rankings of dozens of online degree programs at the associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. The technology aggregates scholarly and academic citations from databases such as Wikipedia and Crossref; evaluates links and other semantic information contained in these databases; and weighs their merits against other information sources such as periodicals, journals and global media outlets.

Additionally, the AI underlying the company’s ranking engine drills down deeply to identify people and institutions, locating mentions of them across the Web in 15 different languages; associating those mentions with records of achievement in specific fields of study; mapping the people that make up an institution and keeping track of independent work done by those people as well as their affiliations with other institutions; and aggregating the influential output of people at an institution, thereby gauging the institution’s influence by disciplinary programs and overall.
