A reception on Jan. 10 opened a joint show featuring the work of Shaun C. Whiteside, MFA ’11, and Sidra Kaluszka, MFA ’10, at the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center.

Approximately 50 patrons joined Whiteside and Kaluszka for the reception to open the exhibition that includes 20 works by the couple. The show features a range of media: acrylic paintings by Whiteside and watercolors and ceramic wall hangings by Kaluszka.

“It is nice for those who have only seen our works mid process in our studios to see the work framed and formally presented on the gallery wall,” said Whiteside, an adjunct professor of art. "The show allows our neighbors and students to see us in our primary roles as artists."

The show is the first of two planned shows in 2019 by the couple to show their work regionally.

“It is our first joint show since we got married in 2015,” said Kaluszka. “It is nice to get together and share our work with the community and our friends. The juxtaposition and contrast of our styles complement one another.”

Kaluszka was chosen by Watercolor Artist magazine for its 2016 list of  “Ones to Watch” and her work has been exhibited in Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, West Virginia, Colorado, Alaska, Rhode Island, Virginia and Japan. Whiteside's paintings have been exhibited from California to New York, as well as in Japan and have earned First Place/Best in Show at the Bower Center for the Arts' “2016 Annual National Juried Exhibition,” the Lynchburg Art Club's 2015 “Water Ways” exhibition and the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art's "New Waves 2013" exhibition, among other awards.

The Whiteside-Kalsuzka exhibition will be on display at the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center through February at 300 South Pepper Street in Christiansburg from Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
