David Tomala, senior director of advanced analytics at Express Scripts, Inc., visited Radford University Nov. 10-12 as the executive in residence for the university’s College of Business and Economics.

Tomala’s visit wraps up the new Executive in Residence program for the fall semester.

While on campus, Tomala presented on "A Contribution to Solving America’s Medication Adherence Problem" and participated in a question-answer session during a faculty luncheon on Nov. 10.

Throughout his three-day stay as executive in residence, Tomala met with students in a cross section of COBE classes to talk about trends in healthcare analytics. He provided information about his company, a pharmacy benefits management company. Tomala also spoke about internship opportunities there, and gave insight into the qualities the company looks for in a potential employee.

At Express Scripts, Tomala is responsible for a $4 million budget and the advanced analytics strategy for new product development and market research.

Professor Prahlad Kasturi, chair of the Economics Department, brought Tomala and previous executive in residence Sreeram Reddy, a vice president at Cargill, Inc., to campus to give RU students and faculty the "benefit from hearing about innovation and analytics from top-level executives of Fortune 500 companies," he said.

The Executive in Residence program is designed to bring to campus CEOs and senior executives who best represent COBE’s strategic initiatives of innovation and analytics. Participating executives will engage with students, faculty and the campus community through such opportunities as classroom sessions and lectures, one-on-one meetings and campus-wide forums.

The Executive in Residence program is scheduled to resume during the spring 2015 semester.
