When Dante Lavender began his college search, he knew exactly what he wanted: a university with a well-respected psychology program, great campus services, affordable tuition and a robust student life. After looking at universities all over Virginia, he soon realized Radford University fit his needs perfectly.

After visiting campus with friends and getting a feel for life at Radford, Lavender applied and was offered admission. Once he officially became a Highlander, he dove straight into his psychology courses. The major was an obvious choice, he says.

“I’ve always loved to help people and I do well with analyzing situations,” he said. “I figure, why not do what I love and make a career of it?”

Lavender’s classes have provided him with supportive and encouraging learning environments with professors who are passionate about the field and students who are ambitious yet friendly.

“The professors here will bend over backwards in order to help you any way they can, and the students are just as friendly,” he said “Every friend I’ve made here is so bright and unique. I believe we will all go far with our ambitions.”

After graduation, Lavender plans to pursue a master’s degree and then a doctorate in clinical counseling.

“I’m a work in progress, but I’m proud of where I am today,” he said “I believe that Radford University has given me the tools that I need to make the future I’ve always wanted.”
