Take a moment to pause and reflect

This past year has brought continued opportunities and challenges for all of us. As we ponder about this past year, we encourage you to take a moment to pause from the day to day responsibilities and reflect on all that has happened and all you have accomplished and withstood. Often, we are caught up in the day to day routine that we do not take the time to see what is truly happening around us and how it has continued to shape who we are.

Taking time to pause and reflect is a way to practice self-care. We often tell our family to take care of their well-being but in turn are we modeling this practice? Are you taking the time to reflect on your life and all the good that has happened? Recognizing the good in our life and practicing gratitude builds a better outlook, increases stress resilience and nurtures optimism.

Taking time to pause and reflect helps you see the challenges you have faced and understand what you have learned and how you have grown. These lessons are an important part of life and give you a glimpse into who you really are and who you want to become.

Taking time to pause and reflect helps you take stock of where you are at the moment and to make sense of the world around you. When was the last time you attended a movie, concert, sporting event or other activity? Did you allow yourself to be present and enjoy that moment or where you planning the next activity, scrolling through social media, or checking off another task on your list. Being in the moment gives you time to gather your thoughts and decide if you are on the path of where you want to be. Often, we are always looking ahead or to the past. Being present in the moment is hard but helps us to savor the times we are in.

Over the summer we encourage you to take time to pause and reflect. We look forward to welcoming your students and gearing up another amazing year at Radford University.

All the best,

Nancy Loosle
