Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The phrase Computer Emergency Response Team is given to specialized groups that handle IT security and IT disaster incidents. In some cases, the R in CERT is replaced with "Readiness".
At Radford University, the Information Security Officer leads the CERT team and is responsible for coordinating CERT efforts. Annual exercises are performed and training opportunities are made available to CERT team members to further hone skills required to contribute to the team.
CERT is comprised of individuals from IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Systems, Networking, Academic Technology and IT Security. The goals of CERT are:
- Protect data, networks and systems.
- Quickly restore data, networks and systems.
- Timely and responsible notification.
- Coordination with external parties.
