Minors
Students earning a business minor must earn a GPA of at least 2.0 in the courses comprising the minor. At least 50 percent of the business courses required for a minor must be taken at Radford University.
The following minors are offered by the Department of Accounting, Finance, & Business Law:
Accounting Minor
The minor in Accounting consists of 18 semester hours and is open to individuals who are non-accounting majors. It is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the critical areas of accounting.
Required Courses 18 hours
- ACTG 211 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting (3 credit hours)
- ACTG 212 Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting (3 credit hours)
- ACTG 311 Cost Accounting (3 credit hours)
- ACTG 313 Intermediate Accounting I (Fall/Summer only) (3 credit hours)
- ACTG 411 Federal Taxation (Fall only) (3 credit hours)
- Any one (1) course from the following list: (3 credit hours)
- ACTG 312 Accounting Information Systems (Fall only)
- ACTG 314 Intermediate Accounting II (Spring/Summer only)
- ACTG 412 Advanced Taxation
- ACTG 416 Governmental and Not-For-Profit Accounting (Spring only)
Note: Students pursuing an Accounting minor must earn a GPA of at least 2.0 in the course comprising the minor and declaration of minor should be officially declared for the minor at least one semester prior to graduation. At least 50% of the minor courses required for the minor must be taken at Radford University.
Finance Minor
The minor in Finance consists of 18 semester hours and is open to individuals who are non-finance majors. It is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in financial decision making by exposing them to core topics, principles, and issues related to financial decision making, with the flexibility to tailor the student’s focus on areas of particular interest.
Required Courses 18 hours
- FINC 331 Introduction to Business Finance (3 credit hours)
- FINC 332 Intermediate Business Finance (Spring/Summer only) (3 credit hours)
- FINC 335 Financial Markets and Institutions (Fall/Summer only) (3 credit hours)
- FINC 381 Investment Analysis (Fall/Summer only) (3 credit hours)
- Any two (2) courses with a FINC prefix (6 credit hours)
OR
Any one (1) course with a FINC prefix plus BLAW 304 (6 credit hours)

Real Estate and Insurance Minor
The minor in Real Estate and Insurance consists of 18 semester hours and is open to individuals who are non-finance majors. It is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in financial decision making in real estate and insurance planning by exposing them to basic topics important to gaining and maintaining personal financial independence and building a solid financial future.
