As he counts down the days to graduation, Xavier Prescott recalls how a personal decision and a sudden life change led him to study sport management, where he found his calling and his groove: “One day I just woke up. It was a new semester. And, I tell you, I just went at it.” 

Ideas for increasing internship opportunities and hands-on work experiences for Highlanders dominated the discussion when the president of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council (VBHEC) met with a group of Radford University students, educators and administrators on April 5.

Leah Ellis, a sophomore, is the only external student participating in the Virginia Tech program this year, and she marks the first TOUR-Scholar to represent Radford University. Under a grant from the National Institute of Health, Ellis will research the effects of non-nutritive sweeteners on the human body, among other tasks. 

One of the nation’s leaders in injury reduction, Tesla executive Laurie Shelby ’83, will deliver the keynote address at Radford University’s 110th Spring Commencement on May 5 and 6.

A tradition that is in its 23^rd year, Advocacy Day allows students to share the importance of their state-supported education with General Assembly members, and to ask elected representatives to consider voting for legislation that would benefit the university.

The Radford University Board of Visitors heard from university deans about their plans to better utilize faculty throughout their colleges to optimize student engagement, recruitment and retention at a special meeting on Jan. 25, 2023.
