We kicked off February is for Highlanders with our annual Volunteer Summit on Saturday, January 27th.

Join us for a month-long celebration highlighting what we love most about our alma mater. Highlanders from across the globe are encouraged to participate through on-campus and virtual events! Highlights include:

| February 27 | 6 - 8:30 p.m. | Film Showing: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks | Join us for a special viewing of the HBO Film starring Oprah Winfrey as Henrietta Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks, based on the best-selling book by Rebecca Skloot. Henrietta Lacks, who was born in Roanoke and died in 1951 at the age of 31 from cervical cancer, is best known as source of the “immortal” cells that form the HeLa line. Her cells, which were used in medical research without her consent, have been essential to numerous breakthroughs related to fields such as cancer biology, infectious disease and many more.
