Balleins Believe in Student-Athletes’ Success

As senior intercollegiate athletic administrators and former athletes, Stephanie and John Ballein have a unique appreciation for the potential of the student-athlete experience.

With a $25,000 gift, the couple will provide additional opportunities to their successors through an endowed scholarship named for their daughters, Jordan and Jalyn.

The first Jordan and Jalyn Ballein Endowed Scholarship will be awarded in April 2016 to a Radford University female student-athlete who demonstrates exemplary academic, athletic and community service achievements.

“Both my husband and I are former intercollegiate athletes and we are well aware of the value that athletics plays in both the personal and professional structuring of one’s life,“ said Stephanie Ballein.

Intercollegiate athletics is a shared family passion.  Stephanie Ballein, Radford University’s senior associate athletics director who handles internal operations and oversees women's sports, is a former basketball player at Virginia Tech.  John Ballein, Virginia Tech’s senior associate athletics director for football and baseball operations, is a former college football player.

“Our hope is that we can provide today’s RU student-athletes the opportunity to have success in the classroom, in competition and in life,” said Stephanie Ballein.

The family investment in Radford University runs deep.

“Radford is a very special place for John and me. Not only have I been able to advance my professional career, but Radford University is now our daughter Jordan’s university of choice,” she said.  “We are proud to be supporters of Radford University, today, tomorrow and beyond.”
