Radford University honored recipients of the 2022-2023 Dalton Eminent Scholar awards with a ceremony on April 7 at the Joseph P. Scartelli Atrium inside the Covington Center for Visual and Performing Arts. 

Ideas for increasing internship opportunities and hands-on work experiences for Highlanders dominated the discussion when the president of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council (VBHEC) met with a group of Radford University students, educators and administrators on April 5.

Finance and accounting major Colton Morris has had investment training that stretches back through college to his high school days. After graduation, he’s taking a job at a North Carolina-based accounting firm, working as a valuation analyst. “I definitely feel like Radford has prepared me to be able to go out and do that,” he recently said. “I’m capable of going in and starting full speed.” 

This week in Highlanders in the News: Local media rings the front desk bell at the newly opened Highlander Hotel Radford; Professor of Sociology Aysha Bodenhamer addresses modern coal mining following a new CDC report on the trade; writer and Communication Professor Bill Kovarik offers historical context on Russia’s recent detainment of an American journalist; and transport manager Chad Kennedy ’00 takes up a podcast mic to talk supply chain issues.

One of the nation’s leaders in injury reduction, Tesla executive Laurie Shelby ’83, will deliver the keynote address at Radford University’s 110th Spring Commencement on May 5 and 6.

The forum, a collaboration between Radford and five other universities, focused on research, networking and ideas and featured 66 presentations on a wide array of topics.

Frazier, a bank executive from Charles Town, West Virginia, returned to campus to meet with groups of students for lectures and discussions. Topics during those sessions included community banking, current career prospects, financial case study evaluations and women in business. 

This week in Highlanders in the News: Kenneth Dorsey Jr., MBA ’18, lends a foundation to his middle school alma mater, and Christopher Settle ’97 sees a quarter century with the Culpeper, Virginia, police department culminate in the rank of chief.

“With an undergraduate population consisting of approximately 25%  business majors, Radford has a large customer base from which to draw graduate students,” The Princeton Review’s editors wrote. “You could say that business is booming at Radford’s [Davis] College of Business and Economics.”

Associate Dean Angela Stanton, Ph.D., called the accreditation renewal, "an external stamp of approval that demonstrates we offer a high-quality business education that provides our students with the necessary foundation for success for their future careers."
