Radford University’s College of Nursing has signed an agreement with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) that will
offer guaranteed admission to the university for students who have earned an Associate
of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in nursing degree from a community college in Virginia.
The agreement gives students who have completed an A.A.S. in nursing an opportunity
to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Radford. Interested students
do not need to meet GPA requirements if they have received an A.A.S. degree. To be
eligible for the transfer agreement, students must complete the A.A.S. in nursing
from a VCCS institution with at least 64 credits.
There is no maximum number of transferable hours; however, students must complete
30 credits at Radford to meet residency requirements. Students must achieve a passing
score on the NCLEX-RN exam prior to admission at Radford.
Before admission, students must present licensure verification, including registration
number and expiration date of license to practice as a registered nurse (RN). Students
must have a license to practice as an RN in the state where clinical practicum course
experiences are conducted.
Radford’s College of Nursing is dedicated to cultivating skilled, empathetic nurses
ready to meet the challenges of modern healthcare. With experienced faculty and a
commitment to hands-on learning, the college provides a nurturing environment that
supports academic and personal growth.
“As a result of the agreement with VCCS,” Downey said, “RN graduates from any community
college in Virginia will be able to complete their baccalaureate degree in Radford
University’s RN-to-BSN program in as few as 10 months at a cost significantly lower
than that of private institutions.”
