Hi! I am a Senior Instructor in the Department of English and the School of Writing, Language and Literature (SWLL), who strives to support students to the best of my ability. Whether writing your first college-level essay or drafting a short story, I will guide you through each stage of the writing process, offering feedback and help as needed. I teach a variety of undergraduate courses and have overseen several independent studies, honors capstones and internships.
Principles of College Composition (ENGL 111): I've designed this course to cover various writing genres, including narrative, academic and technical writing. You'll get in touch with your authentic writing voice, learn how to develop and to support a thesis and finish off with a polished resume and cover letter.
Critical Reading and Writing in the Digital Age (ENGL 112): This course emphasizes the value of media literacy, which helps you to critically analyze and evaluate any form of media, including books, movies, websites and more.
American Literary History (ENGL 240): While the entirety of the American literary canon cannot be covered in a single semester, this introductory-level survey course will familiarize you with key American authors and literary movements. I promise not to talk about Moby Dick too much!
Fiction Writing (ENGL 309): This course welcomes all writers regardless of prior creative writing experience. You'll learn how authors utilize the core elements of fiction writing in their works and will practice writing with a plethora of prompts and zany classroom activities, before producing your own original short story.
First-Year Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Mentor: As a graduate teaching mentor in the Department of English, I work with two first-year graduate teaching assistants to design and develop assignments, classroom activities and more for the ENGL 111 and ENGL 112 courses. My goal as a mentor is to prepare my GTAs to teach on their own during the second year of graduate school as Graduate Teaching Fellows (GTFs).
Internship Coordinator: In this role, I assist students in securing internship opportunities related or connected to the Department of English. Internship opportunities are a great way to gain valuable work experience before entering the job market. If you're interested in learning more about internship opportunities, come chat with me!
I'm a fan of TTRPGs (tabletop role-playing games), Pokémon and horror podcasts.
