Focus and Philosophy: I see music as a way to connect people, tell stories, and explore big ideas. In my
teaching, I encourage students to think critically, create boldly, and embrace music
as both an art form and a life skill.
Background: My background spans research, composition, military music, and education. I’ve written
a textbook on film music, composed works performed nationally and internationally,
and served as a pianist and conductor in the U.S. Air Force and National Guard.
Teaching: At Radford, I teach class piano and jazz, where students explore music theory, improvisation,
and performance. My classes balance academic rigor with creativity, preparing students
for both professional careers and personal growth as musicians.
Research/Scholarship/Creative Work: My research includes film music theory, Spanish Reformation-era music, and military
music history. I’ve presented at conferences, published, and composed for ensembles
ranging from chamber groups to national broadcasts. These projects allow me to connect
scholarship and creativity in ways I can share with my students.
