Radford nursing faculty member receives 2023 AANP State Award for Excellence in Virginia
In recognition of her excellence in clinical practice, Radford University associate professor of nursing Katie Katz, D.N.P. ’13, M.S.N. ’09, is being honored by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) as the 2023 recipient of the AANP State Award for Excellence in Virginia. Each year, nurse practitioners (NPs) across the nation are nominated by their colleagues to receive this prestigious award.
“I am very honored to have been selected to receive this award,” Katz says. “I have been blessed to have wonderful mentors, colleagues, and patients who have all contributed to this recognition.”
In addition to her teaching role in Radford’s School of Nursing, Katz works with Everside Health, overseeing a workplace wellness clinic at a manufacturing facility in Salem, Virginia. She says her clinical practice helps keep her experience current and relevant, which benefits her students in the nursing program. Plus, Katz says she enjoys the work.
“I provide care to the employees at no charge to the patient, and we have a strong focus on risk-factor reduction and wellness,” Katz says. “This is a great clinic where I’ve been privileged to develop long-lasting patient-provider relationships.”
A two-time Radford alumna, Katz is a registered nurse, board-certified family nurse practitioner, board-certified advanced practice holistic nurse and a certified nurse educator.
The AANP State Award for Excellence was established in 1991 and is given to an NP in each state who demonstrates excellence in clinical care. In 1993, the AANP Advocate State Award for Excellence was added to highlight the efforts of individuals who have made a significant contribution toward increasing the awareness and recognition of NPs. Awards are distributed to the recipients throughout the year, with recipients honored during the annual AANP national conference. AANP is the largest professional association for NPs of all specialties, with more than 121,000 members and headquarters in Texas and Washington, D.C.
