Radford University’s School of Nursing programs have been named among the 10 best in the Commonwealth of Virginia by nurse.org.

A panel of five nursing professionals with over 55 years of combined nursing experience and seven nursing degrees reviewed nursing programs state-wide to compile the list. The panel looked at the following factors in choosing the top programs: reputation, NCLEX pass rate, tuition and acceptance rate.

It was also noted by nurse.org that only those schools accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) were eligible for consideration.

“We are thrilled to be selected among the top 10 Nursing Schools in Virginia,” said Wendy Downey, D.N.P., M.S.Ed., RN, CNE, interim dean of the School of Nursing. “The dedication of our faculty to the success of each student both in the classroom and during clinical rotations is demonstrated through our NCLEX pass rates, which have been well above both the state and national averages for many years.”

The section focused on Radford’s nursing programs highlights the university’s smaller class sizes, leading to more specialized instruction and individualized attention, and a curriculum that prepares nurses for a variety of careers that most begin as soon as they graduate. It also cites the advantage of in-state tuition rates, leading to a more affordable education.
