Upcoming events to celebrate academic success and encourage enrollment

Two events in November will recognize the academic achievements of the newest members of the Radford family, the Class of 2024, while encouraging all Highlanders to continue their education at Radford University.

New Highlander High Achiever Event: November 4, 2020

This annual celebration recognizes freshmen and transfer students who earned mid-term GPAs of 3.4 or higher, which indicates they are on track to make the Dean’s List.

“The New Highlander High Achiever Event strives to make our newest students aware of the opportunities at Radford University to become leaders and role models for others,” said Jamie Penven, Ph.D., assistant vice president of Student Success and Retention. “This has been an especially challenging semester for all of our students, and this elite group of high achievers has shown exceptional determination and resiliency in their academics during these circumstances.”

Traditionally organized as an on-campus gathering, this year’s event will be held virtually and was organized by staff in the Academic Success Center.

Students are currently invited to view videos posted on the New Highlander High Achievers Event page.

The videos highlight different resources, services, programs, student organizations and research opportunities that enhance the student experience at Radford University. Also featured is a message from President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D., who shares words of admiration, encouragement and inspiration.

“My advice to you is simple,” President Hemphill tells students. “Keep working hard in the classroom. Engage in clubs and organizations. Keep making a difference on our campus. Be the change that you want to see in the world. I am certain that you will continue to encourage and inspire others with your hard work, dedication and perseverance.”

On November 4, the event will conclude with a live Zoom Q&A during which students will have the opportunity to interact with faculty and staff from different offices across campus. Students who received notice that they were recognized as New Highlander High Achievers were provided a Zoom link to the Q&A event.

Spring 2021 Registration Promotion Event: November 12, 2020

Every semester, students choose to continue their life-changing educational journey at Radford University by enrolling for the next term. This year, Radford University is celebrating these students during the new Spring 2021 Registration Promotion Event, scheduled for November 12.

On this day, students who have registered for spring semester 2021 will be given an “I’m Registered” sticker, similar to the “I Voted” stickers handed out during the election season. For students who have not registered, a resource card with registration information will be made available.

Staff will be placed at strategic locations throughout campus to hand out the stickers and the informational cards.

“Continuing to advance one’s education is a milestone that deserves celebration and recognition,” Penven said. “We look forward to continuing down this path with our students and ensuring their success from day one all the way through commencement.”
