Radford University was the host of The Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo, a premiere university fitness and wellness experience, from February 15-16, 2020.

The expo allowed fitness professionals and students from 32 different universities to learn new skills and keep up to date on the latest fitness trends.

The 2020 Fitness Expo marks the 26th year of the event, which began as a one-day choreography exchange between the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and James Madison University.

Radford University was nominated to host this year’s expo for multiple reasons, said Associate Director of Recreation and Wellness Liz Greenlee, including its state-of-the-art Student Recreation and Wellness Center, which opened in late 2014. Radford University is also a central location of the southeast region, and throughout the past five years, its students and staff have actively participated in the expo.

“This year, we were able to bring a large group of students who showed a lot of interest and excitement in hosting the event,” Greenlee said. “They proudly represented the University with their enthusiasm, teamwork and athleticism.”

About 65 Radford University students and staffed worked the event throughout the weekend, including staff from the Department of Student Recreation and Wellness. The expo also involved several different companies and vendors, 15 sponsorships, campus partners, four master presenters and six guest instructors.

Throughout the event, attendees participated in several interactive workshops and demonstrations. They networked with students and representatives from other institutions and, overall, “had fun with fitness and making new friends and connections,” Greenlee said.

Next year’s expo will be hosted by East Carolina University.
