Study.com ranks Radford University among the best schools for education majors

Radford University is ranked No. 18 on Study.com’s 2019 list of the 50 Best Colleges for Education Majors.

Radford University is ranked No. 18 on Study.com’s 2019 list of the 50 Best Colleges for Education Majors.

To compile the list, Study.com evaluated and ranked the top colleges and universities in the United States. Radford University is one of only two Virginia higher education institutions to be included on the list.

“From a Master of Science in Education to the Doctor of Education and all sorts of program licensure options, Radford University in Radford, Virginia, lets students follow their passion,” Study.com wrote in its rankings. “In fact, there are numerous different programs to choose from here, including areas like deaf and hard of hearing education, educational leadership and high incidence disabilities.”

Study.com pointed to Radford’s new Schoolhouse Living-learning community as an example of the University’s commitment to excellence in education studies.

The Schoolhouse opened in the fall of 2018 and is designed to connect and inspire prospective teachers from all disciplines and grade levels. It provides opportunities for students to share “activities that bolster their learning experience,” Study.com said.

Radford University’s School of Teacher Education and Leadership (STEL), housed in the College of Education and Human Development, has established a reputation nationally, as demonstrated by the Study.com ranking, for preparing responsive and engaged education professionals who teach, lead and serve in communities throughout Virginia and the across the United States.

Students become highly skilled through their courses and their participation in practical field experiences, all of which are coordinated through STEL.

School of Teacher Education and Leadership programs include early childhood/early childhood special education; elementary, middle, gifted and special education; deaf and hard of hearing; educational leadership; reading; science; math; and social studies.

Mentioned in the Study.com ranking is Radford University’s new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) The 63-credit, fully online program will prepare new generations of executive-level leaders in education through coursework, field experiences and applied research to work collaboratively within communities to improve and enhance student outcomes. Ed.D. program classes will begin in January 2020.

Study.com’s mission, it says, is to create rankings to help students make college decisions that fit their individual needs. Study.com uses data from the U.S. Department of Education and other sources, according to its website. In February, Study.com ranked Radford University No. 15 on its 2019 Top 50 schools in the United States that offer a finance degree.

The Study.com ranking underscores Radford University’s commitment to teaching excellence and scholarly participation in research, scholarship and leadership activities within and beyond the classroom.
