Latest accolade affirms Radford’s commitment to student veterans

Radford University has once again been designated as a Military Friendly School, an exemplary accolade that aligns with the university’s strategic efforts to increase enrollment of student veterans and active military, in addition to providing continued services to ease their transition into academia.

Now, in its 10th year, the Military Friendly Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. Radford University has regularly landed on the prestigious list since 2011.

The 2019-2020 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine. The list can also be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.

We value our veterans!

Radford University strongly values inclusiveness and is committed to embracing and honoring the diversity of our community, including our student-veteran population. A goal of the university’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, “Embracing the Tradition and Envisioning the Future,” is to grow veteran and active military student headcount enrollment by 10 percent annually.

Just last year, the Radford University Foundation, Inc. introduced a new Honor Scholarship Fund to honor and support members of the ROTC, veterans, first responders and/or students planning a career in these fields.

Another cornerstone of the university’s commitment to its military and veteran students is the Military Resource Center (MRC), which recently relocated to Russell Hall. The MRC supports those students with ties to the military, especially student veterans. By offering programs and scholarships geared toward the former service members, the MRC supports veterans' integration into academic and professional lives at Radford University by providing support networks and a central resource for veterans' information on campus and in the local community.

In addition, Radford University is continually organizing special events to recognize our veterans, including the annual Veterans Day ceremony in November that included a new networking event in 2018. Veteran’s resource groups are also regularly invited to campus to provide veterans in the community access to the benefits and services available to them.

About the Military Friendly Schools List

The Military Friendly Schools list is released annually by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to civilian employment, educational and entrepreneurial opportunities through its G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and Military Friendly brands.

The list is based on extensive research using public data sources for more than 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly Schools survey from participating institutions.
