Radford University Board of Visitors to Consider 2019-2020 Tuition and Fees

In accordance with Section §23.1-307. D. of the Code of Virginia, Radford University is providing notice that the Board of Visitors will consider tuition and mandatory fees rates for the 2019-2020 academic year at their quarterly meetings on May 9-10, 2019.

The Board of Visitors will consider a proposal to not increase tuition rates for undergraduate students in exchange for additional General Fund support from the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The current update to the 2018-2020 biennial state budget provides additional funding for public colleges and universities to freeze tuition rates for in-state, undergraduate students for the upcoming academic year.  Institutions electing to increase tuition rates for in-state, undergraduate students will forego the additional funds.  The recommendation to the Board of Visitors is to accept the $1.7 million allocation for Radford University.

The Board of Visitors will consider an increase of between 3 percent and 5.95 percent in comprehensive fees for all students. Several cost factors will determine the increase, including: student service initiatives contained in the University’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, Embracing the Tradition and Envisioning the Future, rising operational costs and state mandated compensation increases. In addition, the Board of Visitors will adopt the initial tuition and fee rate schedule for the Radford University Roanoke Division, which is scheduled to open in August 2019 for Fall 2019 classes.

The Business Affairs and Audit Committee is scheduled to meet May 9, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Mary Ann Jennings Hovis Memorial Board Room on Third Floor in Martin Hall.  The Committee’s tuition and fee recommendation will be presented at the full Board meeting on May 10, 2019, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Mary Ann Jennings Hovis Memorial Board Room on Third Floor in Martin Hall.

Prior to the May 9-10, 2019 meetings, full agendas with supporting materials will be posted on the Radford University Board of Visitors website.
