PEAK Program is getting kids moving on Saturday mornings

Students in the Exercise, Sport and Health Education Club are hosting the annual Physical Exercise and Activity for Kids (PEAK) Program each Saturday in February.

School children ages 5-11 are invited to spend Saturday mornings in February running, jumping and playing in the Peters Hall gymnasium at Radford University.

Students in the university’s Exercise, Sport and Health Education Club are hosting the annual Physical Exercise and Activity for Kids (PEAK) Program on Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Sessions run from 9 to 11 a.m.

Activities include a wide variety of physical education and playground games, such as modified kickball or four-square. There will be fitness activities, such as jump rope and tag games, and fun games with parachutes, scoops, cup stacking and juggling scarves.

Registration is 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 3 in Peters Hall. Participants should enter the building through the main entrance off Fairfax Street.

Costs for the sessions is $25 per child for all four Saturdays.

“The PEAK Program is really a win-win for both local children and our HHP students here at Radford,” said Jon Poole, a PEAK organizer and HHP professor. “The children have a chance to have a fun morning of exercise and our students have a chance to teach and work with kids, not just their peer students here in classes. It also allows us to show off our amazing facility here on-campus and maybe even recruit some future Highlanders.”
