Radford University Associate Marketing Professor Gary Schirr has been named to Brand Quarterly’s 2016 list of 50 Marketing Thought Leaders over 50.

Published in London, Brand Quarterly is a magazine focused on providing content to help businesses build “from the brand up.”

Brand Quarterly stated on its website that each of the marketing thought leaders on its 2016 list “have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share and have gained the respect of their peers through their words, actions and achievements, in print, in person and online.”

The publication asked each honoree to share their “marketing mantra,” and explain why it creates better marketers.

In his statement, Schirr explained that “It is cheap – and quick – to fail online and on social media: a marketer can test a multitude of ideas quickly. Lean startup and design thinking processes should be applied throughout marketing. We should observe our target clients, customers and audience to learn as much as possible about them; then we should experiment and learn. The goal is more good ideas implemented more rapidly.”

Schirr, who also made Brand Quarterly’s 2014 top 50 lineup, is no stranger to lists touting social media excellence.

Previously, Social Media Marketing Magazine recognized him as one “who gets it,” and he was rated No. 3 on the magazine’s list of 92 top marketing professors on Twitter.

Schirr has tweeted his way on to another list, as well. In 2013, Blue Focus Marketing listed him among its #Nifty50 Top Twitter Men Writers. The list honored the top bloggers, authors, public relations specialists and journalists on Twitter.

Schirr, who joined Radford University’s College of Business and Economics faculty in 2007, has more than 75,500 Twitter followers. Follow Schirr @ProfessorGary.
