Radford University again celebrates Women's History Month

Radford University will join in the nationwide recognition of Women's History Month in March.

The month-long celebration examines the contributions women make in society, from academia to the arts, from politics to protests and justice.

Again this year, a centerpiece of the month will be the Circle of Life Intergenerational Dialogues, moderated by Psy.D. Director Sarah Hastings, where an inner circle of women from one generation will speak to an outer circle of participants from other generations about their life experiences and what it is like to be a woman in a particular age group.

Distinguished scholars from other universities will join Radford’s celebration. April Herndon, associate professor of English at Winona State University, will present “Women and Children First: Fat Blame in the ‘War on Obesity’” on March 14. Thelathia “Nikki” Young, associate professor of women’s and gender studies at Bucknell University, will guide participants in “Imagining New Relationships through Ethics, Queerness, and Intersectionality” on March 24. Young will lead a discussion and workshop on March 25.

President Penelope W. Kyle, Radford’s first female president, will conclude the month's events on March 30 with a closing reception titled "Reflections on Women and Women's History Month."

Other events include the annual performances of the Paradigm Shift dance performance and Her-Story Celebration featuring poems, sketches and photo journals by RU students, faculty, staff and administrators.
