A friendly game of kickball on April 13 launched Radford University's Greek Week activities.

Members of the Greek Life community turned Heth Lawn into a playing field during the annual tournament, which is part of a weeklong list of events that exemplify Greek values of service and leadership.

Different sororities and fraternities were paired to encourage unity and expose members to different chapters.

Greek Week Committee chairs Coleman Applegate of Sigma Pi and Mallory Howard of Zeta Tau Alpha said it was exciting and satisfying to watch the organizations band together.

"That was our goal this year," said Applegate, who recalled members of RU's National Pan-Hellenic Council and Inter-Fraternity Council celebrating a victory on the field.

Events continued Tuesday with a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in the Hurlburt Student Center. Chapters were responsible for providing a dish. Points were awarded for their contributions and arrival time.

Sorority and fraternity members earn points throughout the week for their chapter based on the number of events attended and other criteria. At the end of the week, a fraternity and sorority winner will be announced and later awarded a trophy at the Greek Life Awards Ceremony on April 28.

"It's always a fun time," said Alpha Sigma Alpha member Sarah Blecher, who is in her third year of Greek Week participation. "There's some competition, but we're pretty unified otherwise."
Other events included the annual Philanthropy Carnival, a game show competition and air band performances, along with a canned food drive.

This weekend, the Greeks will battle in the Chariot Races and Field Games scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intramural fields. The Circle of Sisterhood 5K, scheduled on campus Sunday, will be the last featured event of the week.
