RU student proves a pro at prose

A Radford University senior recently participated in the Southern and Northern Atlantic Forensic Union (SNAFU) Tournament, held at Liberty University.

Communication Sciences and Disorders major Kenzie VanDerwerker proudly represented RU at the Sept. 27-28 event, earning the university first-place honors in Small School Sweeps recognition, which "pretty much means Radford is the best," VanDerwerker said.

VanDerwerker participated in the prose and dramatic interpretation portions of the competition.

Dramatic interpretation is a one-person monologue, VanDerwerker explained; her monologue was in the voice of a deaf person whose brother donated to her a kidney. She read a piece of literature by author Ray Bradbury for the prose event.

Her performances garnered RU the highest overall point level in the competition.

Radford was among six other universities represented at the tournament, including James Madison University, George Mason University and Liberty University.

RU has been represented at this SNAFU tournament since 2011, and this was the second time it has received the Small School Sweeps honor.
