Coming this fall: Recycling bins to each residential hall room

recyclilng bins for campus dorms

Blue recycling bins, for use in RU dorms.

Radford University Recycling, working with Housing and Residential Life, is installing recycling bins in each room of all campus residential halls starting this fall.

Moffett, Bolling, Pocahontas, Draper and Ingles halls will be the first to receive the blue bins, said RU Recycling Coordinator Pavan Muddanna. Bins will be placed in all other residence hall rooms later in the fall semester.

"This way, students have an easy access to store their recyclables in their room and recycle them at the nearest collection point in each building," Muddanna explained. "With the dorm recycling bins, students have the opportunity to collect all types of recyclables in one container and separate them out at the collection point bins."

Each collection area on campus has a separate recycling bin for mixed paper and mixed containers (plastic, glass, aluminum etc.) and cardboard with the respective guidelines.

"With having these containers installed in each room we are hoping to have an increase in our recycling rate and make RU grow more towards a green campus," Muddanna said.

RU strives to be a leader in waste reduction, reusing products and maximizing all areas of recycling. The recycling office is devoted to providing support to the campus by minimizing wastes, reusing items as able and recycling everything else possible.
