RU kicks off Spring Semester with Three Unique Art Exhibits

As Radford University begins its spring semester, the College of Visual and Performing Arts announces the January openings of several unique art installations. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Timeless: Costume Illustrations from the Paris Music Hall Collection, Friday, Jan. 25 - Saturday, Feb. 9, all day, The Bondurant Center for the Arts. The exhibit features designs from the flamboyant world of Parisian nightlife. Spotlighted are internationally-renowned artists including Barbier, Wittop and Zig whose work jointly spanned the worlds of Parisian nightlife, Broadway, cinema and haute couture. University of Georgia Professor Emerita Sylvia Hillyard Pannell will lead a discussion of the works during the closing reception on Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. The RUAM Bondurant Center for the Arts is located at 1129 E. Main St., Radford. RUAM Bondurant Center for the Arts is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from noon - 4 p.m.

Beyond the Tartan: Aaron Shrewsbury, Monday, Jan. 28 - Friday, March 8, all day, Gallery 205. Aaron Shrewsbury exhibits a series of paintings that explore themes of the unknown and origination. Shrewsbury received his MFA from Radford University in 2006. He has served as the art director at Leisure Publishing of Roanoke and as the assistant art director at C-Ville Weekly in Charlottesville. He is currently enrolled at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont and will receive his degree from there in 2014. Gallery 205 is located in Porterfield Hall and open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Weather Report: A Photographic series by Andrzej Maciejewski, Thursday, Jan. 31 - Friday, March 8, all day, Radford University Art Museum at the Covington Center. Weather Report features photographs of changing weather conditions made with a camera obscura by a Polish-Canadian photographer who exhibits internationally. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. The Radford University Art Museum at the Covington Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. For more information, call (540) 831-5754.
