As part of a series of events held throughout Southwest Virginia over the course of a week, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine visited Radford University Carilion on Wednesday, April 12. Sen. Kaine led a roundtable discussion about how to best support the development of the healthcare workforce and address issues such as staffing shortages.

One of the nation’s leaders in injury reduction, Tesla executive Laurie Shelby ’83, will deliver the keynote address at Radford University’s 110th Spring Commencement on May 5 and 6.

SCHEV was on campus March 20-21 for its bimonthly assemblies. Group members toured Radford sites, considered a slate of the state’s higher education issues and received a presentation about the university from President Bret Danilowicz. 

Over the past three years, more than 65 of the university’s authors have published work. A new event was held on March 27 to bring them together for an afternoon and to recognize their accomplishments. 

The forum, a collaboration between Radford and five other universities, focused on research, networking and ideas and featured 66 presentations on a wide array of topics.

The Radford University community celebrated the opening of The Highlander Hotel Radford with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 4.

The “With Good Reason” public radio program is re-airing its December 2020 interview with Radford University Professor of English Louis Gallo, Ph.D., in which he talked in detail about his theories and inspirations for writing.

Camaraderie, not camouflage, was the order of the day as the Military Resource Center saluted the women veterans past and present among Radford University’s students, faculty and staff with a pinning ceremony and reception on Thursday, March 23.

The inaugural edition of Highlander Highlights focuses on students participating in the “Experiential Learning on Display” program, as well as students who learned from media moguls in New York and those who planted trees in Eastern Kentucky to help with replenishing the forest on mining sites. 

Courtney Watson, Ph.D., a professor of English at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, is known for her prolific travels around the world. In March, however, Watson made a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Women of the World International Conference, hosted by the faculty of education in the English department at Alexandria University in Egypt.

The Radford University Board of Visitors held their quarterly meetings on March 23-23, 2023 and heard updates on university progress and goals.
