Student Meal Plan Options

Dining Services at Radford University offers a variety of meal plans, providing you with the freedom to select the plan that best meets your eating preferences.

Unused balances for meal plans do not carry over to the following semester. If the account balance reaches zero before the end of the semester, the meal plan will no longer work until additional Food Dollars (add to Food Dollars Plus) or Flex Dollars (add to Flex Plus) are purchased.  Flex Plus will give your student the same discounts as the original flex plan and because of that, should be added in limited increments, as meal plan balances go away at the end of the semester.

CRITICAL INFORMATION/DATES REGARDING FALL 2020 MEAL PLANS

Online Meal plan changes for students in Residential Housing & University Apartments may be initiated on or after July 13, 2020.  The link may be accessed by logging in to the MyRU Portal, choosing the Finances icon, then choosing the Meal Plan Change link. This link will close at midnight on Friday, July 31, 2020.  Meal plan changes may still be initiated through midnight on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, by emailing the ONE Card Office (onecard@radford.edu).  The email should include the name, ID, and preferred meal plan.  Changes initiated starting the first day of classes (Wednesday, August 12) must be done in our office in Heth Hall and will incur a $20 fee to make the change.  NO MEAL PLAN CHANGES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 2020.  Absolutely no exceptions.

NEW PROCESS FOR PURCHASING COMMUTER MEAL PLANS!

Commuter Student Purchases may be made beginning July 13, 2020, by logging in to the MyRU Portal, choosing the Finances icon, then choosing the Off-Campus Meal Plan Purchase link.  Once the meal plan is chosen, the charge will be added to the student's account and the amount due will be payable to the Bursar's Office.  This new process applies to customers purchasing their meal plans with financial aid as well.  No forms necessary unless you are trying to change an existing meal plan.  Commuter student meal plans may be purchased at any point during the semester.

MEAL PLANS will download and be active on the students' ONE Card beginning Saturday, August 1, 2020, though dining options may be limited through August 11, 2020.  Visit Dining Services' website for more information.

University Apartment Residents

The University Apartment Block Plan is modeled after the 65 & 90 meal plans.  It comes with a "block" of 105 meals and $200 in Food Dollars.  The 105 meals have a "transfer credit" in the amount of $8.37 when used at retail locations such as Chick-fil-A, Wendys, Papa Johns, etc., but when used at the all-you-care-to-eat Dalton Dining Hall (or New River Grille House lunch), only one swipe/meal is taken.  The $200 in Food Dollars are dollar-for-dollar and may be used instead of a meal when eating at the retail locations and they may also be used in vending machines.

The University Apartment Block Plan costs $1112.50 and is the minimum meal plan requirement for University Apartment Residents, though, they may choose to buy up to one of the on-campus meal plans (Flex, 15, or 19 meal plans).  A meal plan change link will be available on the MyRU Portal starting July 13, 2020.

Flex and Flex Junior meal plans 2020-2021: Why are these plans so popular and what do I get for my money?

Many of our students like to eat when they want to eat, at their choice of place, and with friends who are eating at the same place.  They may crave a homecooked meal or choose an ala carte style meal.  With the Flex and Flex Junior plans, the students have the choice to eat at any Dining Services location while enjoying the discounts provided by these plans (50 - 70% below Dining Services retail prices, depending on the location of the usage).

In all retail locations (locations other than Muse or Dalton) students pay 50% off the listed retail price when using their Flex Dollars. In the all-you-care-to-eat dining location (Dalton), the charge is discounted up to 70%, depending on the meal period. Students begin the semester with:

  •  $660 Flex Dollars (RU Flex Plan) and $30 in Flex Vending Dollars
  •  $380 Flex Dollars (Flex Junior)

The 2020-2021 door rates for Dalton and Muse are as shown in the following table.
(Prices shown do not include sales or meals tax)

Students and parents should note that the Flex Plan is the least expensive meal plan provided our Residential Students.  It is not intended to provide three meals per day, seven days per week, but is intended for budgeted use.  For information on the most efficient use of your flex meal plan, check out the Flex Budgeting Guides on the Dining Services website.
